2020 was a challenging year, we all know this. 2021 will continue to be challenging, there’s no doubt about it. But I honestly do think there are reasons to be optimistic as we look forward to 2021. So with that, three things:

Let’s start with this: Before you even reach out, make sure you keep this recommendations top of mind…

  • Reach out to people who work in an industry that is of interest to you
  • Reach out to people whose work you find interesting and would like to learn more about
  • Reach out to people who have a similar background to yours, someone who perhaps transitioned to UX from the same field you’re currently transitioning from
  • Reach out to people who have something about their profile or experience that you have in common with or find interesting

About the “UX Storytelling Series”

We all hear people talk about how important storytelling is in UX and it’s 100% true. But this doesn’t just mean storytelling during the UX process, or even after it via a case study. It also means being able to tell YOUR story. Especially for those that are on the come up.

Specifically, in this series, we’ll be answering questions like:

  • How do you summarize your background and experiences?
  • How do you articulate your key skills and goals?
  • How do you tell this story through the various digital channels that are out there?
  • And lastly, how do you use that…

What do you do after the bootcamp? There’s so much info out there on how to learn UX, bootcamp vs. self-taught, which bootcamps are best, etc. But there’s not much content out there on what to do once the bootcamp is over.

In many ways, graduating or finishing a bootcamp is not the end of a journey but rather the beginning of a journey.

The biggest mistake I see new UXers make once they finish their bootcamp is that they stop learning because they start applying for jobs right away, which in many cases means too soon.

It’s no ones…
